One example is an independent equity research company, AlphaMena based in Tunisia. Of it's 11 analysts, 8 are women according to their website http://www.alphamena.org/Secure/Portal/files/en/analystTeam_AlphaMena.pdf)Michael McGaughy / 麥德安https://www.blogger.com/profile/10681507678046429348noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4532502648309181642.post-4519405239173738592016-05-23T17:40:42.625-07:002016-05-23T17:40:42.625-07:00A contact in Europe, who prefers to remain anonymo...A contact in Europe, who prefers to remain anonymous, sent the following comment via email...(May 2016)

"I think the reply of the Romanian business leaders was accurate. After WWII there was a big euphoria mainly in the Eastern Block countries regarding "progress" in the manufacturing sector. So much so, that people called their new-born daughters "Lokomotiva" and "Electrificatia". Another contributing factor was that the communists' (and especially Stalin's) disregard for human life lead to extraordinarily heavy losses of (male) life in the war, so there was no other choice than allowing women into the "world of labour" after the war. The women, on the other hand, realized that having lost their husbands to the war they were on their own now and had to earn a living. From the perspective of the communists this also had the added "benefit" of alienating children from their mothers and put them under the spell of "the party". And there was probably no other country in the former Eastern Block that was more unscrupulous in "transforming" society in line with their own objectives than Romania. So by the time the cold war ended and the iron curtain came down, there was probably no other country in the world with as many female engineers as Romania.

"And today's business leaders are the daughters of that generation, so they learned - by observing their mothers - from childhood that a woman is supposed to be successful in the business world and earn their own money.

"Christine Lagarde has been quoted as saying that "if Lehman Brothers would have been called Lehman Sisters, the GFC would never have happened", which is quite ironic considering that the CFO of Lehman was a woman, as was the Chief Risk Manager of Hypo-Real-Estate in Germany."Michael McGaughy / 麥德安https://www.blogger.com/profile/10681507678046429348noreply@blogger.com
